What it is

A reference chart showing all 15 key signatures (from seven flats to seven sharps) written on both the treble and bass clef, each labelled with its major key and relative minor key.

How to use it

  • Print at 100% on A4 or US Letter and keep it in your theory folder.
  • Check the correct placement of each sharp and flat on the staff when writing music.
  • Use it as an answer reference for the key signatures worksheets.

Quick rules on the chart

  • Order of sharps: F C G D A E B. Order of flats: B E A D G C F.
  • Sharp keys: the major key is a half step above the last sharp.
  • Flat keys: the major key is the second-to-last flat (F major has one flat; memorise it).
  • Relative minor: a minor third below the major key.
  • Three enharmonic pairs sound the same: B/Cb, F#/Gb and C#/Db major.

Read key signatures and the circle of fifths. Use the interactive circle and browse all keys.
