Guitar Fretboard Worksheet – Level 1
Write the name of every natural note (no sharps or flats) on the 6th (low E) and 5th (A) strings, frets 0 to 12, in the empty fretboard diagrams. Then answer the questions: on which fret is the given note? Work from memory first, then check with the answer key.

Goal
Know the natural notes on the two lowest strings instantly. These are the root strings for barre chords and most scale shapes, so they're the most useful place to start.
How to practise
- Use the pattern of the musical alphabet: two frets between natural notes, except E–F and B–C, which are one fret apart.
- On the low E string: E (0), F (1), G (3), A (5), B (7), C (8), D (10), E (12).
- On the A string: A (0), B (2), C (3), D (5), E (7), F (8), G (10), A (12).
- Fill in the diagrams once with help, then repeat on a fresh copy without help.
- Play and say each note out loud, up and down the string.
Self-check
Check with the answer key. Then test yourself on the guitar: call out a random note and find it on both strings within two seconds.
